What to Expect and How We Support You

After a tooth extraction, it’s normal to experience some bleeding, swelling, and soreness. Our team in Portland, OR will provide clear instructions tailored to your procedure, including how to manage pain and when to reach out if you notice signs of infection or any unusual symptoms.

We emphasize easy-to-follow aftercare steps so you can focus on healing:

  • Control Bleeding: Bite gently on the gauze pad placed by your dentist to reduce bleeding and help a clot form.
  • Manage Pain and Swelling: Use over-the-counter pain relievers as recommended, and apply ice packs to your cheek intermittently during the first 24 hours.
  • Keep the Area Clean: Avoid rinsing vigorously or touching the extraction site for the first 24 hours. Afterward, gently rinse with warm salt water to keep it clean.
  • Watch Your Diet: Stick to soft foods and avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy items that might irritate the area.
  • Avoid Smoking and Straws: Both can dislodge the blood clot and delay healing.

If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, don’t hesitate to call us at (503) 777-5544. We’re here to help you every step of the way.
